Purpose/Essence of the Project

An autonomous system for saving human lives on Israel’s beaches, especially unsupervised beaches, without risking another human’s life.

Describe the Product/Project

The finished product will be a functioning projectile system designed to shoot a floating device that can help a person in distress or exhaustion to stay above water until rescue services arrive.

How Was the Idea Born?

We recognized the acute problem in Israel with drowning cases, as well as the numerous cases in which people tried to save others only to end up drowning themselves. Thus, we saw the need for an automated system that can save people without risking others.

Why Did You Choose This Project?

We place the highest value on saving and protecting human life. Beyond the engineering project, there’s the aspect of helping with a problem that causes numerous deaths each year.

Is the Project Connected with a Personal Story of Yours or of Someone You Know?

We aren’t directly connected with the issue, but when one thinks of tragic incidents such as beloved singer Amir Fey-Guttman’s drowning, it was an event that impacted many people even without direct personal connection to him. And of course, every person who can be saved is a world in themselves.

What Need Does It Address and for What Population?

The solution provided by the project is instant response in cases where a person in the water is in distress and might drown. Unfortunately, there are many drownings each year due to people frequenting unsupervised, unguarded beaches – or even supervised beaches outside of official hours. It is for these people that we have conceived this project.
