About the Center
Material and Process Engineering is a multidisciplinary field that stands as one of the cornerstones of modern technological innovation. This field combines advanced knowledge in physics, chemistry, biology, and engineering, with a focus on the development, characterization, and application of innovative materials, alongside the design and optimization of the processes required for their production and processing.
The Materials and Process Engineering Research and Development Center at Afeka advances research, failure testing, and materials development for design and manufacturing purposes, using innovative technologies and collaborating with the industry in various areas of material and process engineering, such as printed materials and composite materials.
Companies, organizations, and industry bodies are welcome to join Afeka for fascinating and meaningful collaborations.

The services provided by the center are delivered at the highest level, thanks to the professional expertise and research experience of its faculty, as well as the state-of-the-art equipment in the center’s labs, which are designed for the characterization and testing of metal, ceramic, plastic-polymer, biological, and composite materials.
The Center’s Equipment
The micro-CT (computerized tomography) device is a powerful tool for gaining in-depth insights into manufacturing process failures and conducting novel research. This device enhances the academic knowledge and R&D capabilities available to the industry.
Uses of the Device:
- 3D scanning of all parts of a product, both external and internal, generating an STL model.
- Non-destructive tests (NDTs) to assess the product’s integrity and quality, detecting hidden flaws.
- Comparing the product’s dimensions against the planning (CAD) file to ensure the design matches the actual product.
Up to 1,000x magnification, includes a bright field (BF), dark field (DF), polarization, entering and reflected light, and image processing and measuring software.
With the most advanced software package (Oxford advanced).
With a large chamber (holds models of up to 230mm) and 4 detectors.
